City Overview :

Hampi is a village in northern Karnataka state, India. It is located within the ruins of VijayanagaraPredating the city of Vijayanagara, it continues to be an important religious centre, housing the Virupaksha Temple, as well as several other monuments belonging to the old city.
Hampi is situated on the banks of the Tungabhadra river. It is 353 km from Bangalore and 74 km away from Bellary. Hosapete (Hospet), 13 km away, is the nearest railway head.

In Hampi the prime activity of the tourists is to visit and explore Hampi ruins, a kind of its own in the world. The ruins in Hampi are stretched over an area of about 33 km and the surviving structures are sufficient to describe the glorious past of the famous Vijayanagar Empire. The area here is completely barren surrounded by huge boulders; all balanced on a rocky and undulating terrain. You can also visit the Museum situated at the bottom of Matangi Hill.

By Air :

Belgaum at 270 kms is the closest airport and connected frequently to Bangalore and Mumbai.

By Train :

Hospet is the nearest railhead located at 13 kms. From railway station to Hampi bus shuttle or taxi are available on Hire.

By Road :

The main bus station in Hampi is located in the Hampi Bazaar area. KSRTC Buses ply regularly from Hospet. Alternately, you can hire a taxi or a luxyry bus.
