City Overview :

Varkala is a small coastal town of Thiruvananthapuram district and is located in the state of kerala. It lies at a distance of around 51km north west from Thiruvananthapuram also known as Trivandrum and approximately 37 km south-west from Kollam. It is a unique place in itself as its cliffs are adjacent to the great Arabian Sea.
Varkala is a town full of beaches and resorts and is also considered as a holy and pilgrimage center and it is said that if you take bath in the water of papasnanam beach your mind, body and soul will be free from all the impurities and sins.

What to See :

Varkala has got many classy beaches like Kovalam which is a world wide famous beach. This town is less populated and hence very less commercialized with very few shops and a small market. But the beaches are mind boggling and offer activities like swimming, sun bathing, and sun soaking and diving.
The other alluring beaches include varkala beach and papasnanam beach which are bounded by various multi cuisine restaurants and small shops. Maximum crowd of tourists coming to this place is for the sole purpose of either religious reasons or for fun and relaxing. The beaches are very clean and peaceful. Besides beaches there are other attracting sites such as historical Sivagiri Mutt, Anjengo Fort and magnificent Shree Janardhana Swamy Temple.

The closest airport from varkala is Thiruvananthapuram International Airport which is at a distance of 55 km and it just takes around 2 hrs from car or taxis.

By Train :

It is the second most vital railway station of the district and it takes approximately 4 hours by bus from Kochi to reach here.

By Road :

Various private buses and government buses are available here which are comfortable and fast. The bus stand is near the railway station where Kerala State road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) buses are also available.
To move within the city countless Auto rickshaws and taxis are available which are cheaper.
